"Ericsson is the market leader in wireless network equipment and is double the size of its nearest rivals, Nokia Siemens and Huawei Technologies. Reuters
Telefonaktiebolaget L. M. Ericsson (Ericsson) is currently the world's largest mobile telecommunications equipment vendor. The company is publicly traded and sells shares of Ericsson LM-b SHA as (ERIXF:OTC US) ERIXF On Other Exchanges. Ericsson is listed on NASDAQ OMX, Stockholm and NASDAQ New York.
The company was founded in 1876. It was formerly known as LM Ericsson Telephone Company and changed its name to Ericsson in February 2012.
History of the Wallenberg family control of Ericsson
"It was primarily Marcus Wallenberg who worked out a solution to Ericsson's problems. The importance of his role at Ericsson became apparent in 1933, when he replaced his brother Jacob Wallenberg on the board of Ericsson's Italian company, where Marcus Wallenberg was often called "Mr. Ericsson".
Marcus Wallenberg's role came naturally. He had been responsible for the Kreuger loans at SEB. He established close contacts with Sosthenes Behn, president of ITT, and thus created a strong position for himself as a mediator between the two largest owners."
Ericsson is a core investment owned by Investor AB and the other Wallenberg family companies, including FAM that manages the assets along with a FAM subsidiary to administer the 20 Wallenberg Foundations, including donations.
In 2001, Investor increased its ownership in Ericsson and SEB and sold its holdings in Stora Enso, SKF and SAS in a share swap arrangement with the Wallenberg foundations<ref>[1]</ref>

- JUNIPER NETWORKS & ERICSSON
Ericsson has had a history in supporting Juniper Networks through complete acquisition. The partnership was created while the company was still privately owned, prior to Juniper Networks getting an IPO to sell stockshares publicly.
- September 2, 1997: Ericsson, Nortel (Northern Telecom), the Siemens/Newbridge Alliance, 3Com, UUNET formed and investment relationship with Juniper Network, giving $56 Million usd to transform the internet. "In addition to ownership interests, the participating companies have the opportunity to integrate Juniper Networks technology with their existing product lines and services worldwide." Ericsson and Juniper form alliances with Nokia Seimens, IBM, and Dell.
- May 16, 1999: Ericsson and Juniper Networks partnered in "a series of strategic agreements enabling the next-generation of multi-service IP network solutions. The first of the agreements was a contract that allows Ericsson full rights to distribute immediately the M40 Internet backbone router as the Ericsson AXI 520. The Ericsson/Juniper cooperation allows carriers and ISPs to take advantage of Ericsson's systems integration and turn-key support, global distribution and professional services, while benefiting from Juniper Networks extensive IP backbone routing experience.
" The aim of the joint venture is to manage data communications between mobile phone networks and Internet Protocol (IP) networks. All hardware manufactured by the joint venture will be sold exclusively by Ericsson. Ericsson will be the lead partner in the venture, owning 60 percent, the companies said. A board made up of Ericsson and Juniper representatives, to start, will select a chief executive from Ericsson and a chief operating officer from Juniper, company representatives said. The joint venture is expected to be formed in the first quarter of 2001." 2000: As part of both companies' interest in developing integrated IP solutions, the two also have signed a cooperative technology agreement to explore converging opportunities in voice and IP. Separately Ericsson has increased its minority equity interest in Juniper Networks and taken a position on Juniper Networks Board".
In 2001, Ericsson and Juniper Networks formed a joint venture to "deliver mobile Internet routing products to be sold exclusively by Ericsson, and will ensure product availability for ISPs and mobile operators building GPRS and 3G systems." We have long been a supplier of the technology that forms the basis for the very successful Ericsson GGSN, the most broadly deployed mobile packet gateway in the industry. Juniper
- 2006 Ericsson buying Juniper "Apparently, Juniper is getting a big win in China, but under the cover of Ericsson. In case you missed it – Juniper won a $120 million contract from Microsoft (over two years.)" and "According to reporting from Telephony Online's Ed Gubbins, Verizon's principal hardware provider for FiOS is Juniper Networks. In fact, Gubbins reports, Verizon contributes 13% of Juniper's total revenue, and may be the sole reason why that company found black ink again last year. Juniper's E-series routers service Verizon's broadband network. Last October, Juniper announced a major upgrade to its routers' operating system, adding features that included the capability for service providers to deploy deep packet inspection -- the ability to analyze Internet traffic based on its contents.
The Aug 2009 version of Juniper's router software for E-series routers, called JUNOSe has marketed the DPI version as part of its "Intelligent Services Edge" portfolio, which it described as "leveraging a single, consistent operating system and high-performance hardware to flexibly deliver many service types -- including broadband routing, voice, multimedia and integrated security, as well as application-level awareness... - Ericsson Automatic Data Retention Solution (ADRS)
Lawful Intercept not so "lawful" without a warrant. Ericsson patent relies on user to obtain the warrant, because equipment doesn't.
Ericsson Automatic Data Retention Solution (ADRS) to order queries on some target users are traced, so it is possible for the supervisor to verify if some query has been ordered with no warrant, or in a way not consistent with the original authorization. A problem in the current lawful interception and data retention solutions' arises from the fact that an unauthorized use of the systems, that is an interception or a query on retained data performed without a granted warrant, may be detected only after the unauthorized use has been performed.
In other words a command to set a target of interception or a query on some target users may be performed even if a warrant has not been granted, and these unauthorized activities may go on until a supervisor detects the situation." sumobrain

- Wiretapping Switch AXE
AXE is an acronym for Automatic Cross-Connection Equipment.
The AXE is the digital successor to the AKE analogue telephone exchange and ARF/ARM family of crossbar switches. The design is modular with an APZ dual processor running in sync mode, an APT switching part and an APG I/O part. It is used for connecting local landlines, operate mobile networks (TDMA, GSM, CDMA, W-CDMA, PDC), international telephony traffic and signaling.
Developed in 1974 by Ellemtel, a research and development subsidiary of Ericsson and Televerket, the AXE telephone exchange line of circuit switched digital telephone exchanges manufactured by Ericsson that was used in 1976. History of the Ericsson AXE.
AXE Enabler 1.0 for fixed circuit-switched networks... is implemented in all network layers (local and transit exchanges, international gateways, signaling transfer points, service switching points and operator exchanges), enabling a single application system for the complete TDM network. AXE Enabler 1.0 includes the latest hardware generation, AXE 810.
Ericsson's AXE has been deployed in 145 countries, supporting 180 million lines, distributed over 6000 exchanges.
AXE Enabler 1.0 is being used by Syrian Telecom
see more on AXE on Scribed
"AXE based equipment are being used as BSC/TRC, MSC, HLR, SCP, FNR, TSC and wireline nodes.
The brain of the AXE system is a dual processor system called APZ. It runs in parallel sync mode making it fault redundant. The family of APZs started with APZ 210 03 in 1976; the latest one is APZ 212 60. The parallel sync mode was partly abandoned in the APZ 212 40 and subsequent models and has been replaced with a warm standby scheme.
The latest APZ type is 214 03 which is use as MSC, TSC and HLR Blade in AXE. The latest implementation of AXE is on a blade cluster system capable of handling up to 8 million subscribers.
The core of the switching part was the Group Switch, initially a time-space-time multiplexer capable of switching up to 64K positions or connections. This Group Switch later evolved to a Distributed Group Switch using Time-Space switching technique with a maximum capacity of 512K.
AXE nodes have evolved as a traffic controller, having the new Media Gateway node running on CPP platform handle the payload traffic.
Ericsson AXE telephone exchanges support lawful intercepts via the remote-control equipment subsystem (RES), which carries out the tap, and the interception management system (IMS), software used for initiating the tap, which adds the tap to the RES database. In a fully operating lawful interception system the RES and IMS both create logs of all numbers being tapped so that system administrators can perform audits to find unauthorized taps.
