People Responsible

David Cleevely (Chairman)

David co-founded CRFS with Alistair Massarella in 2007. Previously, he was the founder and former Chairman of telecoms consultancy Analysys (acquired by Datatec International in 2004). In 1998, he co-founded the web based antibody company Abcam with Jonathan Milner and was Chairman until November 2009.

In 2004 he co-founded the 3G femto base station company, 3WayNetworks, which was sold to Airvana in 2007. For 8 years until 2009 he was a member of the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the IET and was recently appointed the Founding Director and Executive Committee Member of the Centre for Science and Policy, University of Cambridge.


Alistair Massarella (CEO)

Alistair co-founded CRFS with David Cleevely in 2007. Previously, Alistair co-founded the radio telecoms company Adaptive Broadband Limited in 1997 which was sold to California Microwave (now Adaptive Broadband Corporation) in 1998. Alistair then co-founded Cambridge Broadband Limited in 2000.

Alistair has a PhD in telecommunications engineering from British Telecom Research laboratories and is a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology.


Nick Balon (General Manager)

Nick joined CRFS in 2011. From 2002 he was COO at Xennia which he helped propel into a leading industrial inkjet company and which was acquired by TenCate Plc in 2008. Prior to Xennia, Nick held senior management positions in the chemical industry at ICI and Ineos. He is an active angel investor and mentor.

Nick has a BA from Oxford, MA from Yale and was a Fox Overseas Fellow at Moscow State University.


Stewart Hyde (Chief Scientist)

Stewart was a founder employee of CRFS in 2007. He has been 25 years in the telecoms industry and was previously principal radio design engineer at Adaptive Broadband and Cambridge Broadband. He has expertise in the design and manufacture of wireless broadband equipment, signal processing design, antenna array design and object orientated software design for broadband radio systems.

Stewart has a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Aston University and is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
