"DRT , formerly known as '''Utica Systems, Inc.''', was formed in 1980 to serve the needs of the communications surveillance community.  During its twenty-seven year history, the company has developed a solid reputation for DSP-based communication equipment design.

Until 1997, the company had been primarily engaged in developing portable FDM/FAX /modem processing gear. A change in management occurred in late 1997, with the intent of expanding the company's efforts in DSP-based equipment design. To better reflect the technology focus of the company, the company's name was changed to Digital Receiver Technology, Inc.  DRT moved from Frederick to Germantown, Maryland, in April 1998.  In July 2001, DRT moved from its initial Germantown facility to a larger facility, also in Germantown.  The new facility consists of office, laboratory, and manufacturing space." Then in 2008, DRT was acquired by The Boeing Company.

"U.S. company Boeing announced plans to expand its surveillance and intelligence offerings through the acquisition of Digital Receiver Technology Inc. Boeing announced an agreement to buy Maryland-based DRT as part of a move to expand further into the homeland security and defense intelligence market. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. DRT develops surveillance and tracking equipment hardware and software technologies, including wireless receivers and transceivers. 

"This acquisition is another move in our strategy to expand our presence in the growing intelligence market," Jim Albaugh, '''Boeing Integrated Defense Systems''' president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
